A little rain didn’t chase the Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs® (NBT) supporters away.

Despite the rainy start, over 100 golfers who attended GOLF4MFG®  on Monday, Aug. 20 at Cantigny Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill. enjoyed a fun day of play and camaraderie. Thanks to the company sponsorships and generous donations of the players, this year’s golf event raised a record $30,000! The event proceeds will give NBT the opportunity to award additional scholarships and support several more summer camps in 2019.

New Games and Contests

New games on the course kept the golfers engaged and excited throughout the course. Pre-start games included a three-hole putting contest and Splash-for-Cash where players tried to make a 50-yard shot in to a baby pool. This year’s putting contest had a three-way tie and all three winners generously donated their cash prizes back to the foundation.

Golfers had a blast with the ball launcher on Woodside #4 when they shot their golf ball out of a CO2 propelled cannon. In addition to four hole-in-one contests, Ed Youdell, president of FMA & NBT, invited everyone to Challenge the President on Lakeside #8. Ed took on players for a chance at getting their shot closer to the pin and winning prizes.

Congratulations and Appreciation

The 2018 winning foursome team was from Scranton Gillette Communications – SGC: Rick Schwer, David Schwer, Rick Blasi, and John Fitzgerald. In addition, skill prizes were awarded to: Scott Sandifer of Steel Technologies for straightest drive; Dave Clarke of Production Tube Cutting for longest putt; John Aye of G.E. Mathis for longest drive; and Mark Elliott of WIPFLI, Inc. for closest to the pin.

Again, this year Turner Construction sponsored a foursome to allow four military veterans to attend the event, this year’s veteran attendees were: Al Gildemeister, John Johnson, Jim Riforgiato, and Chuck Molitar. Thank you to each of you for your service to our country.

During the reception, Roger Wilson on behalf of CNA Insurance, Matthew Fitzgerald on behalf of Miller Electric, and Bruce Benedict on behalf of Production Tube Cutting presented checks for their companies’ donations to the NBT foundation.

Like any NBT fundraising event, the true winners are the students at the summer manufacturing camps and the scholarship recipients. Sam Breese, a recent scholarship winner, played in the event and gave a speech at the reception about what receiving an NBT scholarship meant for him. Sam graciously thanked everyone for their continual support of the Golf4MFG event, the NBT foundation, and the future of the industry.

Many thanks to all the 2018 event sponsors!

Mitsubishi Laser, CNA, Turner Construction, TRUMPF Inc., LISSMAC, HK Systems & Laser, FREEMANG.E. Mathis, LoSasso, Northland Laser, Lundstrom Insurance
